Xtreme Autocross Championship 2012 – Round One: Asad, Mukesh, Ghazanfar enthrall fans with sensational wins
KARACHI, March 25: The Round One of the 2012 championship of Xtreme Autocross was recently held at the Fountain Parking lot, Clifton, Karachi.
For this season, Xtreme Motorsports had introduced two further categories, the Novice class consisting of participants competing for the very first time, and the other being the Ladies class for ladies.
The event was witnessed by thousands of fans who kept pouring in throughout the evening.
Xtreme Motorsports race director Mansoor Halim, who designed the track, held the drivers' briefing after which the season was flagged off.
The Ladies category was won by brilliant Ayesha Aman, who was participating for the first time, followed by the talented Fizza Anvarali.
The Novice category had 5 young participants contesting for the single trophy. This category was won by Harris Qamar, who drove his Honda Accord to perfection to clinch the top spot.
The D-Stock category was recently introduced for the 2012 championship and was won in style by Imam Ali Shah driving a Toyota Corolla. Uzair Habib and Nauman Saranjam took the second and third positions respectively.
The C-Stock category, which is the most competitively contested one in the event, was won by Ghazanfar Agha, who was lucky to withstand the pressure from race-wizard Omer Khuhro. Khuhro enthralled fans with superb driving in his Honda Civic but missed the first position by a slight margin. Saleem Tabani took the third position.
The B-Stock category was won by a distant margin by Syed Asif Imam driving his Mazda Miata. The second position was taken by Mohammad Raheel, who was driving a Mazda RX8.
The A-Stock category saw a superb comeback from Omer Somroo in his new Mitsubishi Evo 9, who took the first position, with newcomer Sufian Zahid also driving a Mitsubishi Evo 8 to take the second spot.
The C-Prepared category was won by the new driving talent Khawaja Shayan, who with every race has been progressing and now has made the first position his own. He was followed by Sarfaraz Dhanji, who took the second position driving a Toyota RunX; the third position was taken by Amir Ali Shah driving his beloved Mercedes C200.
The B-Prepared category saw the most intense competition, with all three drivers leading the category at one stage. But it was Mukesh Chawla, driving his Toyota MR-S, who pulled the magic trick out on the last lap to clinch this keenly contested category. Khawaja Ahad took the second position in his Honda Civic Type R; the third position was taken by Zaheer Hussain Shah driving a Mazda RX8.
The A-Prepared category saw the introduction of Asad Khuhro back in autocross after many years. He was the Race Director for the previous three seasons of Xtreme Autocross Championship. Asad had a battle at hand with a huge challenge posed by Shamyl Khuhro — the reigning champion of this category. But Asad led from the first round and also posted the fastest time of the day (FTD) of 55.06 seconds. Shamyl took the second position driving his Mazda RX7, and Ahsan Rasheed was third, driving a Mitsubishi Evo 8.
The second round of Xtreme Autocross Championship 2012 is scheduled for April 14.
